Basic Needs Support

We recommend signing up for an appointment to learn more about your eligibility for SNAP. You may qualify if:

• You are a US citizen
• You are attending school at least half time
• You meet state and federal income guidelines and meet one of the following criteria:
  • You work at least 20 hours a week or meet another student exemption
  • You receive less than 50% of your meals through either a mandatory or optional meal plan
  • You care for a child under the age of six
  • You care of a child age 6-11 AND are a single parent OR are without adequate childcare to allow compliance with the student work requirement
  • You have documented physical or mental disability
  • You are included in an ADC or TANF grant unit

SNAP stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. SNAP helps recipients buy food, which raises nutrition levels among low-income households. A household may be one person or a group of people who buy and make their food together.

You sign up for a private 30-minute meeting with a SNAP coordinator from the Food Bank of Lincoln. During this meeting, the coordinator will help you understand SNAP eligibility requirements and assist you in navigating the application process. These appointments are offered once a month on the third Thursday in the Student Advocacy & Support office with time slots available between 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
